What Are Children's Common Bedtime Problems?


One to two years old toddlers ought to have 11-14 hours of rest over a 24-hour time frame. When your child ages around three to five years, he/she needs 10 to 13 hours of sleep. Similarly, 6 to 12 years, children need at least 9 hours of sleep every 24 hours.

2. Overexcited or Over-stimulated

Your child can be hyperactive or overexcited to finish work before time. Your child may be hyperactive and do not sleep because of his workaholic nature.

3. Stressed

Your child can feel stressed because of the pressure from parents, peers, and teachers. Too much expectation in a short period can be one of the reasons for not taking enough sleep at night.

4. Nightmares During The Night

Your child’s apprehension and fear can be the reason why your child encounters nightmares every day. Maybe he is afraid of being abandoned.

5. Refusing to sleep in Bed, Alone

Your child may have sleep problems when he sleeps alone. He shows tantrums to sleep in his bed at night.

6. Problem in sharing the bed with a sibling's

Some children find it uncomfortable when they share their bed with their mom or siblings. It ruins their sleep when they find siblings turning and tossing.

7. Crying When They Wake up

Young children, especially babies and toddlers cry when they wake up and find nobody is there to take care of them.

How Can I Help my Child's Sleep Problems?

Maintain a consistent bedtime routine. Switch overhead lights off and use dim table lamps before a few minutes to bedtime to minimize light exposure in your kid's room. Try to get her/his apprehensions rid of. If your child finds it difficult to breathe, take the doctor's help.
